About This Project

This body of work explores the societal separation of female body from nature, as well as the psychological schism that occurs as a result of this Cartesian mind-body split.  Mythologies and archetypal narratives inform the work, acting as a point of departure for the images that are subsequently created.  Photo transfers, combined with pen, gouache, cut paper, and collage,  are used to manipulate found images of women and transform their bodies with natural, botanical, anatomical, and visceral elements.  The work is created on old book pages that have been lovingly, sometimes fitfully, removed from their spines.
